OPI DS Lapis and DS Pewter

OPI has recently added two new colors to their Designer Series line, and I was fortunate to get bottles from them for review. OPI is calling these new colors Raw Granite, saying in the press release that these "granite-inspired hues" have "a matte textured finish with mineral-like reflections".

DS Lapis is a dark blue with silver "mineral-like reflections". Here's what it looks like at two coats, no topcoat:

This dried to a texture that was not quite as bumpy as the recent Liquid Sands.

With topcoat added, the silver in DS Lapis pops more.

DS Pewter is a deep charcoal grey with silver glitter. Unlike DS Lapis, which had only small glitter pieces, DS Pewter has some larger hexes in the mix. Here's two coats, no topcoat:

After topcoat, the base in DS Pewter looks pretty nearly black, bringing the silver glitter to the forefront.

I like both of these better with topcoat than without. I don't know that I like them well enough to pay a premium for them, though. Back in the day when OPI DS meant super gorgeous holos, paying the upcharge seemed okay. Now that the DS polishes aren't all that different than regular OPI colors, I'm less inclined to grab them. Sometimes I find outlets that don't know or don't care that they're supposed to be marked at $12.50 instead of $9.00, though, so if I do come across these in one of those situations, I might pick them up, as I do love me some glitter, and these are some sophisticated ones.

The polishes shown in this entry were provided free for review purposes. The content of the entry was not dictated by the provider.
