Rock Mafia's "I Am" feat. Wyclef Jean, Tokio Hotel & David Correy - Song Review

Categorize this effort as a contender for strangest, most unexpected, yet greatest collaboration of all time. Mastermind Rock Mafia has called on the talents of Wyclef Jean, Tokio Hotel and David Correy to bring his love-inspired song to life in the form of "I Am". The new track is featured on the FIFA '14 soundtrack and recently performed as a solo version by Correy on the TODAY Show.

Known primarily for his acclaimed hit "The Big Bang" as well as his production credits for Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, Rock Mafia's latest release shows a slight departure from his previous tunes. Instead of focusing all the attention on a catchy beat, the producer and his featured guests bring forth a powerful, inspirational track that deserves to be heard by many.

"I Am" is a universal track of courage and strength filled with lyrics depicting the need to see one's own self worth. While Rock Mafia handles the reigns of the upbeat, 2007-sounding reggae production, Wyclef Jean, David Correy and Bill Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel provide strong vocal performances as they give listeners a moment of encouragement and hope. "I am worth it, I am blessed beyond belief, I am perfect, I am what I say I am," they sing on the chorus that has the capability of become a real radio staple in the coming months.

The song's success comes from the risk of being different and standing apart from everything else crowding the top region of the charts. While Wyclef needs no introduction, Tokio Hotel makes a welcomed return after their last studio album release in 2009 and David Correy will quickly win people over with his impactful vocals and emotional range. "I Am" may be a simple video game soundtrack offering, it may be pieced together by artists from every spectrum of the music world, but it has that ability to quickly take hold and demand attention. It's an honest hit.
