Indie pop artist Adam Tyler has always triggered my fascination since I stumbled across his impressive hidden gem of a debut album,
Shattered Ice, back in late 2011. Since then, Tyler has been keeping rather busy working on new material, with the release of "Fade Into the Light", "Concrete" and "Electric Valentine", over the last year. The artist has even personally shared a few unreleased recordings, but his secrets are safe with me.
All the songs are leading up to an anticipated re-release/deluxe edition of his debut, out later this year, before he's ready to unleash his proper sophomore effort, which is sure to increase his audience as Tyler has what it takes to be a true force in the pop genre.
Following the darker "
Only One", Tyler teases the upcoming re-release with "
Criminal", a high-energy, aggressive, thumping pop track that immediately soars to the top of his best work to date. Inspired by his first trip to the United Kingdom and a run in with the country's immigration officers, the track is effectively supported by infectious electronic beats, a sickening chorus and strong, ever-improving vocals from the young recording star.
"
I'm like an animal, yeah you got me caged in, criminal, criminal, you don't seem to mind that I'm suffocating, criminal, a criminal," Tyler belts on the chorus as the club stomping inspiration fades in and out on the well-written verses that follow. All in all, it's yet another pop-influences release that keeps the positive momentum flowing in the artist's direction.
Shattered Ice is an effort I still blast almost three years after its initial release, tracks like "Music Freak", "Pull the Trigger" and "Forgive Me" are amazing tunes, but Tyler is definitely building the buzz and anticipation for his next few projects. "
Criminal" does follow a similar formula found in most of Tyler's music catalog, but it does highlight his growth and production experimentation. Another sure fire electro-pop smash.
